Massachusetts Geographic Response Plans
This website describes the process used to develop Geographic Response Plans (GRP) to protect sensitive coastal environments and resources along the Massachusetts coastline. It contains draft and final work products developed by GRP Project Teams as well as meeting materials.
The MassDEP Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup initiated this project in 2007, with a goal to produce approximately 30 GRPs for sites in the Cape and Islands region, and to then replicate the process in other areas of the Commonwealth. GRP have already been developed for Buzzards Bay, and a project is ongoing to update the Buzzards Bay GRP and to revise their format to align with the standard approach developed through the Cape and Islands project. As funding permits, additional GRP projects will be initiated in other coastal areas of Massachusetts.
Massachusetts GRP regions:
Buzzards Bay (GRP being updated as of July 2008)
Mt. Hope Bay
South Shore
Boston
North Shore

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has contracted with Nuka Research and Planning Group, an oil spill consulting firm with local offices in Plymouth, to facilitate the GRP workgroup and to develop and produce the GRPs.
